The restoration of the nationally significant unique historical and architectural monument, Katerynoslav cloth factory, is carrying out in Dnipro. It has been the largest city-forming enterprise within 40 years from the moment of establishment.
The building will be 226 in this year, and the first references to the plans of its construction can be found in the “Sketch of Katerynoslav city” (1786).
Katerynoslav cloth factory has been used as the food storage for army, the hospital, the orphanage and the pathologicoanatomic museum within the period of its existing.
However, the most of Dnipro residents remember this building as the bread-baking plant. The factory was used as the bread-baking plant within the period between 1926 and 2000. The building was in disrepair after factory closing.
The building of Katerynoslav cloth factory will be adapted for use as the commercial building after restoration.
The renovation process is launched
The enterprises-members of the “Alef” corporation which were engaged into construction of such well-known facilities in Dnipro city as Muli-purpose complex “CASCADE PLAZA”, Shopping and business complex “Bosphorus”, business centre “Prism” etc. proceeded to the factory restoration.
According to the professionals, the undertaken studies allow the launch of restoration works in terms of renovation of the whole quarter limited with Yavornytskyi avenue, Paster and Pryvokzalna streets and Staromostova square.
“Katerynoslav cloth factory building was subjected to many reconstructions and redesigns. We had to work on searches for holes laid there once. We found the redesigns which had no relevance to the monument, so we had to dismantle them. It was problematic to define the initial forms of incoming elements of side wings due to the fact that they were laid rather qualitatively and stylistically, as well as architecturally.
However, as it turned out, the layers of 1914 deformed the architecture provided by the author initially in some way. Currently we perform works on the restoration of the initial building image”, Oleksandr Berdyk, the project architect comments.
What project will be implemented within the territory of Katerynoslav cloth factory
The commercial premises will be located in the building after restoration. It is also planned to build the shopping centre at the place of waste land behind Katerynoslav cloth factory.
The passage street will divide the new centre and the renovated monument. It will be similar to one of the most popular places in the city, Katerynoslav boulevard.
“This is going to be 4-level shopping centre with underground parking. I and II level is for trading and coffee bars, III level is for food courts. It is very important to identify the pedestrian boulevard which will be located between the building of the cloth factory and the shopping and entertainment complex.
This is going to be the European-class comfortable passage street with good illumination and plants with an opportunity to take rest. Entries to the boutiques of both of the former factory and the shopping centre will be located here on the part of the boulevard”, the chief architect Ihor Zadoia said.
The first stages of renovation are implemented currently: roof dismantling, pile testing and production of supporting metal frame.
