Dnipropetrovsk regional laboratory centre will receive the automatic station for disengagement of nucleic acids and proteins which will be used during PCR-testing for Covid-19. This station will help to reduce the time of generation of the results of tests significantly due to the fact that it will perform automatically the function which is now fulfilled by the specialists manually.
New equipment will enable to perform hugely more PCR-tests for coronavirus. The station purchase became possible due to assistance of Vadym Iermolaiev, the chairman of the “Alef” corporation council and the investors of “UDK”, “MIROPLAST”, “AXOR Industry” Mustafa and Khasan Basher who allocated three millions UAH for coronavirus control.
Some part of the allocated funds was sent to the charitable fund Kiddo which will equip additionally the laboratory complex with PCR hoods, centrifuges, dispensers, stands and other special items for this money. The laboratory will be able to operate at full capacity and will enhance its efficiency after improvement.
“The station will enable to perform by four times more tests during working hours: you need 2 – 2.5 times for manual processing of 24 tests. And the station will perform 96 tests within the same time. And the additional equipping of the laboratory will enable to increase the staff twice which will enhance the efficiency of work”, Olena Paliichuk, the head of virological laboratory of Dnipropetrovsk regional laboratory centre comments.
As is commonly known, currently there are two kinds of tests for coronavirus in the world: short-term test and PCR-test. Moreover, PCR-test is more exact due to the fact that its result is defined upon availability of genetic materials of coronavirus while the short-term test shows the antibodies presence. So, PCR-test is considered to be the gold standard of diagnostics as it enables to detect the disease from the date of infection and before onset of symptoms. In terms of figures it means that the accuracy of short-term test result is equal to about 50%, and the accuracy of PCR test is 90%.
Moreover, performance of PCR test is more expensive, it requires reagents and expendable materials for sampling and complex specialized equipment. That’s exactly why business and the authorities join their efforts for the result – high-quality testing of citizens.
WHO Head, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called all the countries repeatedly for active testing of the citizens and emphasized that particularly massive testing helps to control coronavirus propagation efficiently. Testing enables to find people infected with new virus quickly and to isolate them.
Currently the number of tests performed in Ukraine is equal to 2,97 persons per1 thousand of citizens, and this number is insufficient. For example, the number of tests is equal to 12.17 persons per 1 thousand of persons in Great Britain, 20.59 in the USA and 34.88 in Italy.
Consequently, the growth of testing coverage in Ukraine is one of the most important tasks without performance of which it is impossible to see the actual situation with coronavirus propagation. In light of the current situation the weighty contribution of business into COVID-19 control helps to go for complete victory over the threat efficiently.
